Cold Comfort Farm

Many people know this as a movie (and it's a good one) but the book
is wonderful. It's a light read and laugh out loud funny. It's about
a young woman who goes to live with spooky distant relatives on their
spooky farm overseen by a spooky grandmother who rules with an iron
fist. In the tradition of Emma, the heroine is a meddler, and she swoops
in and changes everyone's life.
