Transportation #8

Ok, I think I got over confident . . . The train thing just went too easily. I had a quick time buying a ticket since I jumped in the shorter, credit-card only line; and when I got onto the train I was amazed that it was fairly clean and not particularly crowded. I had a nice little berth, with curtains to close myself off from the rest of the train. I was served lunch, it was good. The bathrooms -- while technically being a hole in the floor -- nevertheless had Western style toilets, and were also clean. It was all just fine. I put my bed down and got ready to sleep.

Which is when I saw the cockroach. And the other cockroach.

I can't even go into it. Despite a text message that made me laugh from Wayan telling me that they were a) good luck in Mongolia and b) a good source of protein -- I just couldn't really even bear it.

I think I like the bus better.

Oh! Our Wiccany minds are still so in synch even though you're on the other side of the earth! I had a dream about cockroaches last night. Oh. Maybe I conjured them up for you by dreaming about them. I'm so sorry, Karen.

i just got my computer back from the shop, so i had a joyous time squandering the day, reading up on your adventures in India that I missed.

it took me a long time to get over the first time I had a cockroach fly(!) in my room, so i feel your pain. but, remember- they can't squish you under their shoes, so you've got that going for you.

Had one crawl on me today as I was cleaning up after Hurricane Frances in Florida. Big, multi-segmented palmetto bug about two inhces long.

It struggled with my leg hair, unable to advance up my leg until I cupped in my hand and threw it on the Mexican working with me. He danced la cucaracha as it crawled around his neck.

Good fun!

Your mom had a bad dream with no cockroaches but where the flood waters from the hurricane were encroaching upon you, us, them, the world. Please report home that you have survived all predators of all kinds....

Mom, in NYC at meeting all day but cell phone on... smile... 202 352 1340.
