Um. . . in Japanese Starbucks apparently -- or at least the one I'm in right now -- the baristas all yell welcome and thank you as you come and go just as if it were a sushi restaurant.

Thanks Mrs. Cooke! I have to say that one of the things I most didn't understand about my experience in Japan, was actually how easy it was to be American there -- sort of contra anything I had been told. Don't know if I was just lucky, or what. . .
