August 04, 2004Some Bridges are Better BurnedYou know, at a point it gets ridiculous. All the hoops they make you jump through to get these piddly jobs that no one really wants anyway. Two weeks later they asked me to come in again, to meet the head of the department. This time they kept me for 3 1/2 hours. Not asking *me* questions, mind you, but telling me, in excruciating detail, the minutiae of their every day jobs. That was it. I will not play Carrie to any HR Dept.'s Mr. Big, I thought. This absurd dance of yearning and rejection must end! Then I crafted a respone that would ensure I would never hear from them again: Dear Katy,

That is a perfectly crafted letter! (And I am weirdly reminded of an old Family Ties in which Alex Keaton leaves his Ivy League interview because Mallory is crying outside and he just says: "I'm sorry, I hope my application can stand on its own. . . You figure that they would have enough info to make a educated desicion, guess not. Well anyway nice reply and I got a chuckle out of it because in a strong arm society, it's nice to win once in a while.
